The arts are as old as humanity. They are part of every culture and central to the diverse and continuing cultures of First Nations Australians. Through the arts, people share stories, ideas, knowledge and understanding. The arts engage our senses and give us ways to imagine, celebrate, communicate and challenge ways of knowing, being, doing and becoming.
The Arts at Picnic Creek State School is a learning area that combines five areas of the arts; Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Media Arts and Music. At Picnic Creek State School, students are taught all five areas across the year level bands (Prep, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6). Students are given the opportunity to express their creative talents through their array of weekly lessons and also the variety of extra-curricular arts offerings;
· Choirs (Junior and Senior)
· Band (beginner and intermediate)
· Strings Ensemble (Beginner and Intermediate)
· Dance Excellence (Junior and Senior)
· Picnic Creek's Got Talent (PCGT)

In our lower primary curriculum, students actively participate in play-based methods that incorporate arts education across the five Arts subjects. Through this approach, they cultivate an appreciation for how the arts enhance their own lives and the lives of others. Engaging with various art forms fosters a sense of wellbeing among students while creating deeper connections with the world around them.
In the middle and upper primary bands, students delve deeper into the arts by analysing the use of elements, concepts, and conventions within their own creations and the artworks they encounter. They articulate how various art forms serve as a language for expressing ideas, perspectives, and meanings across diverse cultural, historical, and geographical contexts. Students then showcase and perform their art in both formal and informal settings, honing their presentation skills and sharing their artistic expressions with others.
